Outreach & Education
Stay ALERT! Series
Stay ALERT! is a monthly educational workshop series that radically analyzes and explores the intersections of all the oppressions in our lives and communities. Community leaders facilitate interactive workshops with participants on topics such as queers & racism and queers & immigration. Thoroughly understanding these connections enables participants to build more effective coalitions based on relationships and shared responsibility, leading to community empowerment and social change.
Health Workshops & Brunches
QPH coordinates and hosts three health brunches or workshops each year. The topics for each event vary and target different audience. Past topics have included: Breast & Cervical Cancer Prevention (in English & Bengla), Eroticizing Consent (in English), and Preventing Domestic Violence (in English & Spanish) among others.
Public Health Campaign
Every summer, QPH chooses a public health issue of importance to LGBT communities and develops corresponding outreach materials and surveys. Throughout the summer, our outreach staff and volunteers attend health fairs, outdoor picnics & festivals, march in parades, and set up tables at the beach to dispense the materials and educate our communities about these issues.
Community Outreach
QPH continually visits local businesses, social service organizations, and gay bars in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn to distribute information about our programs and services, health-related information, and condoms.
